It is November and soon the year 2016 would be in the past.So I thought its time to see which smartphone is the best smartphone of 2016.This year gave us many powerful smartphones, some of them were so powerful that they exploded with power and were not able to make this list, others tried to do something different and ditched the Headphone Jack while others continued the moto “Whats not broken Needs no changing”.In this review we will be testing the best hardware and software put together by various smartphone’s companies to make Smartphones even better than your PC’s.
Today Apple’s Iphone 7 plus,Samsung’s S7 Edge & Google’s Pixel XL will be going from head to head too Toe to Toe to prove to its customers that they have the best smartphone of 2016.
The most innovative in the trio would ne Google’s Pixel XL they experimented and went with a full metal unibody design with a glass casing on the back to hold the fingureprint scanner. The most innovative does not mean the best looking, though all these smartphones look premium, the Iphone steals the show and gives a whole new meaning to the word “Premium”
Although the three pack the same screen size ie 5.5 inches the pixel density is the area where they differ:
Iphone 7 Plus:-1080 x 1920 pixels
Samsung S7 edge:-1440 x 2560 pixels
Google’s Pixel XL:-1440 x 2560 pixels
Although Samsung and Google have a tie the over-saturated colour display of Samsung makes S7 Edge a clear winner in this department
Display is not that important as the performance of the smartphone, after all all comes down to how the device performs when it is put to the test.
Samsung packs a Quad-core (2×2.15 GHz Kryo & 2×1.6 GHz Kryo)
Octa-core (4×2.3 GHz Mongoose & 4×1.6 GHz Cortex-A53) CPU along with Adreno 530
Mali-T880 MP12 GPU, which is supported by microSD, up to 256 GB (dedicated slot) – single-SIM model
microSD, up to 256 GB (uses SIM 2 slot) – dual-SIM model and 4 GB of RAM.
Apple’s Iphone 7 Plus is also carrying Apple A10 powered by Quad-core 2.23 GHz CPU and a (six-core graphics) GPU with 32/128/256 GB, GB of storage, 3 GB RAM .
Google’s Pixel XL Packs a Qualcomm MSM8996 Snapdragon 821 powered by Quad-core (2×2.15 GHz Kryo & 2×1.6 GHz Kryo)CPU along with Adreno 530 GPU with 32/128 GB of storage, 4 GB RAM
even with lesser cores and RAM at its disposal Apple’s Iphone compets with the other devices but the Google’s Pixel XL takes the cake in this round.
Afterall what good is a smartphone if it cannot take good pictures Right??
The S7 edge packs a 12 MP, f/1.7, 26mm,primary camera with phase detection autofocus, OIS, LED flash.Which records at 2160p@30fps, 1080p@60fps, 720p@240fps, HDR, dual-video rec.The selfie camera is a 5 MP, shooter with a 1/4.1″ sensor size, 1.34 µm pixel size, f/1.7, 22mm, dual video call, Auto HDR.
Apple placed a primary Dual 12 MP, (28mm, f/1.8, OIS & 56mm, f/2.8), phase detection autofocus, 2x optical zoom, quad-LED (dual tone) flash,which can record at 2160p@30fps, 1080p@30/60/120fps, 720p@240fps.The secondary camera is a 7 MP, f/2.2, 32mm, 1080p@30fps, 720p@240fps, face detection, HDR, panorama,in their Iphone 7 Plus
Google Pixel XL packs a 12.3 MP,primary camera with f/2.0, EIS (gyro), phase detection & laser autofocus, dual-LED (dual tone) flash.Which records at 2160p@30fps, 1080p@30/60/120fps, 720p@240fps,Its secondary camera is a 8 MP, f/2.4, 1/3.2″ sensor size, 1.4 µm pixel size, 1080p camera.
The camera performance by all these smartphones is extraordinary but the Pixel XL wins this round with its ability to capture low light images with near perfection.
What good are all these features if the battery of the smartphone cannot last long enough.
Samsung’s S7 edge packs a beast of a battery measuring at 3600 mAh which can run smoothly through a day on a single charge and Qualcomm’s 3.0 Quick Charge also enables S7 edge to charge fully in about 52 minutes (from 0-100%)
Apple’s Iphone 7 plus packs a much smaller battery measuring at 2900 mAh which with apples optimisation should last through the whole day.Absence of quick charge does put Apple in the back seat.
Pixel XL packs a Non-removable Li-Ion 3450 mAh battery which easily helps googles flagship to last more than a day on a single charge.
All these smartphones cost a Fortune and for that fact any one of them is the best smartphone of 2016.But if you actually spend that kind of money on a smartphone it should be atleast future proof with regular and timely OTA updates and in this case one can pick either Google’s Pixel XL or the Iphone 7 both are equally good.
